Video Games Shows People How to Be a Drummer
Video gaming sure have advanced since the original days of Space Invaders and all the old favorites of yesterday. Who envisioned back then that one day video games could be used to teach real skills or become so realistic and technologically advanced?
Rock Band is not only a game that is fun to play, but it has been said by Harmonix Music that if you master the Rock Band drum set on the 'hard' setting, you can pretty much play the drums for real! But really are you really playing the drums, or just copying the pattern you see on the screen? If you are able to play along with the video game, that does not translate into the real world and does not mean you will be able to play a real drum kit. The real world of drumming requires the ability to read music, which is not taught in the game; fantastic coordination and rhythm. If you can't read sheet music you will probably not be able to be a professional unless you are musically gifted and able to hear what to play. Most bands these days no longer use electronic drum kits such as were popular in the 80's. Real music give the musician more control over the volume, pitch and duration of the drum note and cymbals.
One thing real drums won't need is World Tour cymbal repair cable, because real cymbals don't have a cable that is too short and breaks all the time.
The smallest drum kits are harder to play than the Guitar Hero or Rock Band drum set. For a non-musician, I'm sure the mental image of a real drum kit is intimidating! Ponder for a moment you're sitting behind an enormous drum kit, with the knowledge that your band and loving fans all depend on you. If you're able to do that you might be a great drummer, but for a new musician even the Guitar Hero or Rock Band drum set can be overwhelming.
The basics of playing the drums is as simple as keeping the beat. So being able to tap your feet means you're a drummer? Not reality, no. A skilled drummer adds their creativity to the music and enhances it as well as providing a base rhythm for the rest of the band to follow. You don't always notice the drums, but if you were to remove them out of the song I think you would notice for sure!
Can video games actually teach how to play drums? Most likely not, but you can sure start learning the basics. Get acquainted with the drums through the Playstation game, practice counting the beat, and you are on your way to stardom! Just don't forget to grab a replacement Guitar Hero World Tour cable before it breaks!
